How a Wrong Coffee Filter Made All the Difference

From the Yucca Valley Desert to New York City: A Tale of Two Brews

After returning from LA over a month ago, one of the standout moments was the tranquil mornings in the Yucca Valley desert. Raring to brew my morning coffee, I realized I forgot my V60 filters. Although I could have hit up a local market for replacements, the idea of driving on uneven roads, even if it wasn't far, didn't sound too fun. Left with no choice, I improvised with an ill-fitting coffee filter, resulting in a less-than-ideal brew. However, sipping that imperfect coffee amidst the desert backdrop remains one of my most cherished moments. Back in New York, brewing the same beans with the proper filter in a V60 dripper revealed a whole new flavor profile. It was a light bulb moment on how much coffee filters can impact the taste.
