#5. It Tastes Like Korean Love: Sweet Aroma, Low Acidity

Von Brown Coffee Blog | Brewing Coffee Archives -Weekenders Coffee, Espresso Blend

If I were asked to pick coffee beans that Koreans would love, I would choose this one. It has very little acidity and a good amount of bitterness.

I’ve got something for you! My friend Suli, brought me a pack of coffee beans from her travels in Kyoto. It was an Espresso Blend from Weekenders Coffee, a Kyoto-based roastery. Seeing 'Espresso Blend,' I assumed the beans were roasted specifically for espresso.

Since Suli knows I usually brew coffee with drip makers rather than making espresso. I said, "It says it's an espresso blend." She replied, "Yes, why?" I asked, 'It says it's an espresso blend. Why did you get these beans?' She replied, 'Do you think I know the difference between all these coffee beans?'

It turns out I’m the one who gets excited about learning the details, like where the beans are produced, how they’re processed, and when they’re roasted. I enjoy the whole process, from exploring coffee beans to brewing. Suli just enjoys drinking coffee.

I actually loved the flavors. It had a perfect balance of acidity and was sweet, without being funky or floral. The best part about this coffee, in my opinion, is the aroma—it’s reminiscent of very sweet cotton candy. Later, I saw a description from other coffee sellers that noted, "The remaining sugar in the cup has a caramel-like aroma," which makes sense given how similar the experience was.

Since this blend is made with beans from various regions and the website only provides flavor notes in English, all I knew before tasting it were the notes—Bittersweet Chocolate and Nougat. The result? It’s rich, full-bodied, and well-balanced. It wasn’t as bitter as we had expected from an espresso blend. If you prefer a clean cup of coffee over one with complex flavors, this espresso blend is a great choice.

Here are the details about the beans:
