Savory Sesame Lattes and Smooth Americanos for the Sunny Spring Day

Back in my hometown, things seemed different this time around. I popped into the Lotte Department Store that appeared a few years back to run some errands. It's a massive place, and I couldn't resist picking up a few items while I was there. I enjoy shopping, but I like to keep it quick. Spending hours browsing and buying things on a whim usually leads to regrets, so I try to shop with a purpose.

After snagging some clothes, I checked Google Maps for a cool cafe to hit up. I wasn't in the mood for the generic coffee offered at the department store; it's usually from a big chain. That's when I stumbled upon Cafe Yeonwho, known for its special treat called Boni Jorim – these yummy candied chestnuts. It's just a short walk from Lotte, tucked away in a quiet part of town with vintage furniture, no flashy signs, and no printed menus.

During my trip to Korea last year, every cafe I visited featured a black Sesame Latte on their menu. Intrigued by its perceived health benefits, I decided to give it a try. Concerned about excessive sweetness - given that it's a coffee drink topped with cream - I also ordered an Iced Americano as a backup.

The Sesame Latte surprised me with its savory profile and just the right touch of sweetness. The powdered topping, likely ground sesame powder, enhanced the flavor profile with its rich notes. On the other hand, the Iced Americano tasted like a smooth medium roast coffee, notably lacking in acidity. It's interesting how Koreans often lean towards an Americano with minimal or zero acidity.

The ambiance was relaxed, with the sound of cheerful chatter filling the cozy space. The cafe's vintage and woody interior exuded a charming French-style cafe vibe, adding to the overall experience.
